Το «Άστρο της Ανατολής» είναι ένα ορχηστρικό χασάπικο του Μάνου Χατζιδάκι, που το συναντάμε στον δίσκο από την ηχογράφηση της «Οδού ονείρων» του 1962. Στην παράσταση όμως δεν ακουγόταν ως ορχηστρικό αλλά ως τραγούδι, με στίχους του Χατζιδάκι και τίτλο «Άστρο βγαίνεις μες το βράδυ». Μάλιστα το τραγουδούσε η σχετικά άγνωστη τότε Ρένα Βλαχοπούλου. Στον δίσκο όμως μπήκε ως ορχηστρικό και όχι με την φωνή της Βλαχοπούλου. Υπάρχει άλλη μια αδισκογράφητη εκτέλεση με την Μαίρη Λίντα, ενώ για την ιστορία να πούμε πως την ίδια μελωδία τραγούδησε και η Φλέρυ Νταντωνάκη, όχι με τους αρχικούς στίχους του Χατζιδάκι αλλά με καινούριους γραμμένους από τον Άκο Δασκαλόπουλο στον δίσκο «Λειτουργικά» και τίτλο «Το μαγικό χαλί». Επίσης την ίδια μελωδία χρησιμοποίησε ο Μάνος Χατζιδάκις το 1964 στην ταινία «Τοπ Καπί».

English Translation:

“Star of the East” is an orchestral melodrama by Manos Hadjidakis, which we find on the album from the recording of “Road of Dreams” in 1962. However, in the performance, it was not heard as an orchestral piece but as a song, with lyrics by Hadjidakis and the title “Star you come out in the evening”. In fact, it was sung by the then relatively unknown Rena Vlachopoulou. However, it was included on the album as an orchestral piece and not with Vlachopoulou’s voice. There is another unrecorded performance with Mary Linda, while for the sake of history, let’s say that the same melody was also sung by Flery Dantonaki, not with Hadjidakis’ original lyrics but with new ones written by Akos Daskalopoulos on the album “Liitorgika” and the title “The Magic Carpet”. The same melody was also used by Manos Hadjidakis in the 1964 film “Top Kapi”.
