Χαίρομαι που είμαι κρητικιά
και όπου βρεθώ το λέω
με μαντινάδες τραγουδώ
με μαντινάδες κλαίω!!

Η μαντινάδα ή πατινάδα ή κοτσάκι είναι ποίημα που αποτελείται από δυο στίχους που συνήθως είναι δεκαπεντασύλλαβοι σε ομοιοκαταληξία ή και τέσσερα ημιστίχια που δεν ομοιοκαταληκτούν απαραίτητα. Αποτελεί μέσο αυθόρμητης λαϊκής έκφρασης σε αρκετά μέρη της Ελλάδας, κυρίως όμως ως κατηγορία του νησιώτικου ελληνικού τραγουδιού στην Κρήτη, που είναι ξακουστή για τις μαντινάδες της.

Αυτό το είδος της έμετρης λαϊκής έκφρασης στις Κυκλάδες και ιδιαίτερα στην Απείρανθο της Νάξου λέγεται “κοτσάκι”. Αντίστοιχα ονόματα αυτού του είδους είναι επίσης τα λιανοτράγουδα, οι ρίμες, οι παρόλες τα “στιχάκια” ή τα “δίστιχα” άλλων περιοχών της Ελλάδας.

Ειδικότερα, η κρητική μαντινάδα διακρίνεται για την ιδιάζουσα έκφραση, το μεστό της φράσης και αντανακλά τα αισθήματα, τη σκέψη και τη ζωή του κρητικού λαού. Αντλεί τη θεματολογία της από ποικίλους τομείς και ανάλογα διακρίνονται σε σκωπτικές μαντινάδες, ερωτικές, ευκαιριακές και φιλοσοφικές. Είτε ως φιλοσοφία, είτε εκφράζοντας παράπονο , η μαντινάδα επί αιώνες συνοδεύει τους Κρητικούς σε όλες τους τις στιγμές και στις εκδηλώσεις, στο σημείο που όσοι δεν είναι από την Κρήτη την θεωρούν αποκλειστικά κρητική ποιητική δημιουργία.

The mantinada or patinada or tortoise is a poem composed of two verses which are usually fifteen-syllables in rhyme or even four semisticks that do not necessarily suffice. It is a means of spontaneous popular expression in several parts of Greece, but mainly as a category of the island’s Greek song in Crete, which is famous for its mantinades.

This type of popular expression in the Cyclades and especially in Apeiranthos of Naxos is called “kotsaki”. Corresponding names of this kind are also the retailers, the rhymes, the “lyrics” or the “tweets” of other regions of Greece.

In particular, the Cretan mantinata is distinguished by the special expression, the phrase of the phrase and reflects the feelings, the thought and the life of the Cretan people. It draws on its subject matter from a variety of disciplines and is distinguished in mockery, erotic, opportunistic and philosophical.
